The limit of overs is currently 50 overs per innings, although in the past this has been 55 or 60 overs.[1] ODI cricket is List-A cricket, so statistics and records set in ODI matches also count toward List-A records. The earliest match now recognized as an ODI was played between England and Australia in January 1971;[2] since then there have been over 4,000 ODIs. The frequency of matches has steadily increased, partly because of the increase in the number of ODI-playing countries, and partly as the cricket boards of those nations seek to maximise their revenue.[3]
Before breaking the 200 runs mark, the highest ODI score was 194 held by Pakistani cricketer Saeed Anwar scored on 21 May 1997 against India at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.[4] On 16 December the same year, Australian women cricketer Belinda Clarkbroke the 200 runs mark and set the highest individual score of unbeaten 229 runs against Denmark[5][6] in One Day Internationals at MIG Club Ground, Mumbai which remained unbroken for 16 years, 11 months, 7 days till Indian batsman Rohit Sharma broke it on 13 November 2014 scoring a 264 runs against Sri Lanka on 13 November 2014 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata which remains the highest individual score in the ODIs[7] but Clark remains the highest individual scorer as a captain.[8]
In One Day Internationals, the first man to score a double century was Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 200 not out against South Africa at Captain Roop Singh Stadium, Gwalior on 24 February 2010.[9] In women's cricket Amelia Kerr broke Belinda Clark's 21 years old record of 229 runs on 13 June 2018, scoring an unbeaten 232 runs against Ireland, thus set a new highest individual score in women's ODIs and Kerr is the youngest player to score a double century.[10][6][11]New Zealander Martin Guptill is the highest individual scorer in any ICC Tournaments with unbeaten 237 runs against West Indies at Westpac Stadium, Wellington in 2015 Cricket World Cup.[12][11] Rohit Sharma is the only player in history to score 3 ODI double centuries.[13] The following table lists scores of 180 or higher.
